Businesses making money through social sites??

Hey guys,
Can you give me some specific examples of how vendors or companies use facebook/myspace/orkut/linkedin to make money?

They make money in two main ways:

* Advertising on the site
* Creating a large population of a particular demographic = more advertising/promotion/newsletter advertisement revenue

They may also do data mining, but it depends on what the terms and conditions says.

    They may be having banner/contextual advertising and affiliate programs, but these social networking websites are generally over hyped
