when my mom died we started receiving social security money. Is it mine now that I’m 18?
It’s all been sitting in an account for years.
Children under 18 years of age receive Social security if a parent dies. That generally is spent to help bring you up in a better situation. Normally your dad, or grandparents, who ever takes care of you could have used that to help pay for housing, food, etc. But if it was just put away in an account for you, that will be nice. You have to talk to the person who has been your parent or guardian for these years.
