How can kids make money, what are the best methods. I need some extra income to help my family out a bit and don’t really wanna do a paper round. I need some good ideas on how kids can make money please - It’s got to be legal by the way!

If you have odds and ends lying around the house that your parents are okay getting rid of, you can have a garage sale. We have garage sales a few times a year for extra spending money. Also, you can ask friends or other family members to contribute items to your garage sale.

K im 13 and im trying to get $250. i have school so i only can do stuff on the weekend. I already have 160 but i need 90 more dollars so how can i earn tHAT MUCH MONEY IN 3 DAY?

Let’s see… you are 13 so you have a little bit of grasp on reality. That’s good but if you want $90 in 3 days you might not be very practical since there are employed adults that would love to get $90 in 3 days and they have a paycheck coming. Do you see where I am going with this???

One of the key components to maturity is planning. You can wish or want anything in life but you’re going to be burned and disappointed. You have to DO in order to get things done and overnight or three days isn’t going to work in most cases. Now I am not trying to upset you but prepare you for the importance of planning.

Planning

You have to give yourself enough time to achieve your goals. $90 isn’t going to just fly into your hands unless you either ask for it or do something to get it. You may want to think about what you want ahead of time. Set goals. Make them realistic. $30 a day is doable but not very realistic. Start planning a business whether it’s washing windows, baking cupcakes for your parents to sell at work, recycling bottles or aluminum cans, teaching younger kids in subjects you are really good at, selling things you don’t want or need anymore or whatever. Be the best at what you do and your customers will find you but it’s important to advertise so that your name gets out there.

Believe in your dreams!

The dreams can come true but not by wishing or wanting… they come true by DOING.

Do something today so you are not disappointed.

Good question. It depends on the price of the house and how much down payment you want. Right now you need 3.5% down to get an FHA loan and 5% down to get a conventional loan. Anything less than 20% requires private mortgage insurance of 50-100/month on top of your mortgage. I started saving for my house down payment when I was 18 by putting away $200 every two weeks. By the time I was 25 I had about 35k saved up and put about 25% down on a 130k house. It worked well because I don’t have to pay PMI and also don’t have to worry about the value going down as much because I have a large cushion should I need to sell soon.
